Armor calculation and bunker design

Ensuring the safety of patients, staff and the general public requires a thorough understanding of radiation protection principles and shielding calculations.

In this intensive course, the fundamentals and practical applications of shielding calculations will be explained, with an emphasis on radiotherapy services, providing theoretical and practical tools that allow them to approach projects in a comprehensive manner.

Course objectives

  • Understand the fundamentals of radiation protection and its application to shielding design.
  • Learn to calculate shielding thicknesses for different types of radiation.
  • Design safe and functional facilities for radiotherapy, nuclear medicine and diagnostic imaging equipment.
  • Evaluate national and international regulations to ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Analyze and solve practical cases of shielding calculations for equipment such as linear accelerators, CyberKnife, TomoTherapy, PET-CT and others.
  • Develop a final project that integrates all the concepts learned, applied to the design of a radiotherapy service.
