There are institutions where it is impossible to have a dedicated CT scanner in the operating room. Samsung offers a revolutionary tool for diagnosis and treatment: BodyTom™ is a mobile, full-body CT scanner that can be used in the operating room as well as for transport within the hospital.

GENERAL INFORMATION

Mobile, self-shielded full-body CT scanner.

  • The advantages of BodyTom™ are: It is mobile and self-shielded, so it does not require the construction of a bunker, allowing CT scans to be performed anywhere in the institution. It is plugged into 220V and has batteries that give it an autonomy of up to 12 hours on stand-by or an average of 6 CT scans without needing to be plugged in. It is the first 32-slice mobile full-body CT scanner. Ability to acquire intraoperative images, transforming any OR into a Hybrid Operating Room. Preoperative, intraoperative and postoperative examination. Compatibility with all surgical navigators. It represents a multi-departmental solution. No weight or age restrictions.

  • The main features are:

    ✅ Images equivalent to those of a fixed CT scanner.
    ✅ DICOM 3.1 images compatible with PACS / RIS / HIS.
    ✅ Multislice 32 slices.
    ✅ Capabilities: 2D, 3D, multiplanar reconstruction.
    ✅ Performs CT scans with and without contrast, perfusions and angiotomography.
    ✅ Obtains axial, helical and dynamic slices (perfusion and angiotomography).
    ✅ Scout scan.
    ✅ Preconfigured protocols.
    ✅ Communication with Workstation and storage systems via wireless or cable.
    ✅ No weight or age restrictions.
    ✅ Internal shielding.
  • Communication is done as follows: From the scanner, information is passed to the BodyTom™ Workstation and finally to the PACS of the sanatorium or hospital. Among these three elements, we can choose to communicate via wireless or cable. As can be seen in the graph, there are five possible combinations that will depend on the needs and possibilities of each institution. The most recommended combination is to use a wireless connection between BodyTom™ and the Workstation -which makes it easier for the equipment to move- and then via cable between the Workstation and the PACS -for greater speed and security in the transfer of data-.

Below are some of the main clinical uses of BodyTom

✅ Neurosurgery:

Using BodyTom™ with any radiolucent skull fixation system, high-quality intraoperative images can be obtained. This enhances the usefulness of neuronavigators, with which the CT scanner has full compatibility, improving surgical results.

✅ Spine surgery:

With BodyTom™ it is possible to transform the operating room into a spine imaging room, thanks to its 85cm opening gantry and 60cm field of view (FOV). BodyTom™ is compatible with all surgical navigation systems, and allows images from C1 to S5 to be taken in a single pass. It offers high image quality for both bone and soft tissue.

✅ Orthopedic Surgery:

The ability to perform high-quality CT scans in an operating room can significantly improve the efficiency of patient care and treatment. Because of its portability, BodyTom™ can be taken from one operating room to another to scan critically ill patients, thus turning them into imaging rooms without the costs associated with installing fixed CT scanners.

✅ Therapy:

With BodyTom™ it is possible to perform CT images of complex patients in therapy without the risk associated with their transfer. This not only provides greater safety and better care for patients, but also improves the efficiency and time availability of intensive care physicians.

✅ Diagnostic Imaging:

BodyTom™ delivers high-quality diagnostic images for both bone and soft tissue. It is DICOM 3.1 compatible, so images can be shared in the institutions' information systems for later evaluation.

✅ On-call:

The rapid diagnosis and efficient management of critical patients in the on-call are key elements for their care, where time is a factor of utmost importance. Being self-shielded, BodyTom™ allows CT scans to be performed within this same room, avoiding transfers and improving treatment times.
