¿What is Radixact | Accuray?
Radixact is the renewal of the TomoTherapy system that integrates treatment planning, verification of the position of the patient, the tumor and the organs at risk, as well as the execution of the administration of radiation.
It uses a revolutionary binary multileaf collimator with which it is possible to modulate the intensity of the radiation beam. It offers helical, rotary and continuous treatment. It achieves high levels of target conformability, homogeneous dose distributions and high dosimetric gradients, optimizing the therapeutic range.
The system provides volumetric CT images of the volumes of interest immediately before treatment, allowing real-time certification of the patient's position, accurately determining the location of the target and the organs at risk.
It also allows the radiotherapy treatment to be adapted according to possible modifications that occur during treatment time in the morphology, size and mobility of the tumor. Radixact integrates treatment and imaging into a single functional unit using a Linear Accelerator installed in a helical ring gantry, being a high-precision modality of intensity-modulated radiotherapy (IMRT) guided by tomographic imaging. -
Benefits of Radixact | Accuray
✅ User-friendly: Facilitates treatment planning from the start.
✅ Full Integration: Offers a fully integrated treatment process for cancer therapy. It incorporates user-friendly software for treatment planning, quality control, treatment setup and administration.
✅ Because all patient and plan information is stored in one location, the risk of data transfer errors is minimized.
✅ Unparalleled precision: Provides a helical treatment modality (continuous 360˚) in which tens of thousands of narrow beamlets are directed at the tumor in order to optimize the total dose to the tumor.
✅ True accuracy: The Radixact system is integrated with CTrue™ technology, which enables physicians to acquire CT images every day for every patient. CT images play a key role in patient positioning, dosimetric analysis and treatment modification at any time during therapy. CTrue™ enables physicians to compare the original tumor volume from accurate images and 3D reconstructions.
✅ Full assurance: PreciseART™ software enables true adaptive radiotherapy. By using 3D imaging for patient positioning every day, physicians are able to visualize the dose that will actually be delivered to the patient that day.
✅ Adaptive dose delivery: Allows for quantitative, dosimetric analysis and modification of a patient's treatment over the course of treatment to accommodate changes in tumor anatomy and size. As a result, patients can be assured that they are receiving the full prescribed dose.
✅ Integrated Quality Assurance: The TomoQuality Assurance (TQA™) application simplifies the collection and analysis of system performance information, providing trend and parameter information that will enable physicists to monitor equipment performance.
✅ Effective Treatments: Provides the TomoDirect modality (non-rotating delivery option) which is based on discrete angles, with the capabilities of conformal 3D radiotherapy. This modality allows the creation of treatment plans that include between 2 and 12 specific angles in the gantry position. -
About Radixact | Accuray
✅ MVCT imaging system
The system allows for comparing planning scans, performed on a conventional kilovoltage CT scanner, and the MVCT verification scan performed directly on the Radixact system in order to ensure that the treatment is effective.
Megavoltage CT allows for obtaining a clear, well-defined image even in cases where artifacts from metal parts complicate the visualization of the image. The planner allows us to perform a manual or automatic correlation between the MVCT images and the CT planning for the transverse, sagittal and coronal planes.
Once the optimal alignment of all the projections has been achieved, the planner obtains the corrections of the parameters that must be modified on the stretcher. After that, the stretcher will be moved online to be located at the precise coordinates. Dosimetry
The innovation proposed by Radixact is to perform dosimetry before treatment on the MVCT or KVCT images, obtaining great benefits for increasing tumor control.
✅ Planning system
The Precision planning system designed by Accuray specifically for its radiation therapy system is the tool that empowers the work team with planning and workflow power.
It includes capabilities for registration and fusion of images of different types, advanced structural contouring tools, comparison options, summation and verification of treatment plans to ensure the best optimization of the dose in the disease, restricting the dose received in the organs at risk as much as possible. -
Modes of operation
🔵 Tomo Helical
This modality is considered a “Gold Standard” treatment since it combines small beams of intensity-modulated radiation (IMRT) 360° with mega-voltage computed tomography (MVCT).
It allows the delivery of thousands of beamlets (small beams) that are individually optimized for the tumor, maximizing the shaping and uniformity of dose in the tumor and minimizing the exposure of healthy tissue.
During treatment delivery, the linear accelerator performs several 360º rotations around the patient while the treatment table moves into the gantry. With its continuous delivery and high dose rate, treatment time is reduced compared to other methods.
🔵 Tomo Direct
The system offers a fixed gantry treatment modality called TomoDirect in which the intensity of the treatment beam is not modulated through the multi-leaf collimator.
The TomoDirect delivery mode provides 3DCRT treatment through a discrete angle non-rotating delivery mode. TomoDirect allows for the creation of treatment plans that include between 2 and 12 angles.
During treatment delivery, beams are delivered sequentially with the table passing through the gantry at a speed appropriate for each beam.
Fixed jaw and optional dynamic jaw (TomoEDGE) modes are available with TomoDirect. With TomoEDGE, the field width is varied during delivery to increase the dose gradient.
